Tuition may be provided online, in person, or through another agreed format depending on tutor availability, student requirements, location and suitability.
2. Our Tuition Services
Our services may include:
- One-to-one private tuition
- Online tuition
- In-person tuition where available
- Maths tuition
- English tuition
- Science tuition
- 11+ preparation
- GCSE tuition
- A-Level tuition
- Exam preparation and revision support
- Homework support and confidence-building tuition
We aim to provide structured, supportive and professional tuition tailored to each student’s needs. However, academic progress depends on several factors, including attendance, effort, current ability, independent study, school support, parental support and exam performance.
Beckenham Tutors does not guarantee specific grades, exam results, school places, scholarships, admissions outcomes or academic improvements within a fixed timeframe.
3. Enquiries and Bookings
When you contact Beckenham Tutors, we may ask for information about the student, including their year group, subject needs, current ability, exam goals, availability, location and preferred lesson format.
A tuition arrangement is only confirmed once:
- lesson details have been agreed;
- tutor availability has been confirmed;
- the parent, guardian or student has accepted the lesson arrangement;
- payment terms have been agreed; and
- any required payment has been received.
We reserve the right to decline a booking if we are unable to provide a suitable tutor, if availability is limited, if the request is outside the scope of our services, or if we consider the arrangement unsuitable.
4. Tuition Fees
Tuition fees will be confirmed before lessons begin. Fees may vary depending on:
- subject;
- education level;
- tutor;
- lesson length;
- online or in-person format;
- package type;
- frequency of lessons;
- travel requirements where applicable.
All fees must be paid in accordance with the payment terms agreed at the time of booking.
Unless agreed otherwise, tuition must be paid for in advance.
5. Payment Terms
Payment may be required:
- per lesson;
- weekly;
- monthly;
- in advance as a package;
- or by another agreed payment arrangement.
If payment is not received on time, Beckenham Tutors may pause, cancel or refuse further lessons until the outstanding balance is paid.
Where payment is made through a third-party payment provider, the payment provider’s own terms may also apply.
6. Cancellations and Rescheduling
We understand that students may sometimes need to cancel or rearrange lessons.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, we require at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a lesson.
If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, the lesson may be charged in full.
If a student does not attend a scheduled lesson without notice, the lesson may be treated as completed and charged in full.
Where a tutor needs to cancel or rearrange a lesson, we will aim to provide as much notice as possible and offer a suitable replacement lesson time.
7. Late Arrival and Missed Lessons
Students are expected to attend lessons on time.
If a student arrives late, the lesson will usually still end at the scheduled time unless the tutor agrees otherwise.
If a student is more than 15 minutes late without communication, the lesson may be treated as missed and charged in full.
For online lessons, students are responsible for joining the lesson on time using the correct link and ensuring that their device, internet connection, camera, microphone and learning materials are ready before the lesson begins.
8. Online Tuition
Online lessons may take place through Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or another agreed platform.
Parents/students are responsible for ensuring the student has:
- a stable internet connection;
- a suitable device;
- a working microphone and camera where required;
- access to the agreed online lesson platform;
- a quiet and appropriate learning environment;
- any materials required for the lesson.
Beckenham Tutors is not responsible for disruption caused by internet problems, device faults, power cuts, software issues, incorrect login details, or technical problems outside our reasonable control.
Where possible, the tutor may attempt to continue, extend, or reschedule the lesson, but this is not guaranteed.
9. In-Person Tuition
Where in-person tuition is agreed, the parent/guardian must ensure that a safe, appropriate and suitable learning environment is provided.
A responsible adult should be present or available where lessons involve younger students or take place in a private home.
Beckenham Tutors and its tutors reserve the right to refuse, pause or end an in-person lesson if the environment is unsafe, inappropriate, disruptive or unsuitable for tuition.
Travel availability and any travel-related fees may vary depending on location and will be confirmed where applicable.
10. Parent and Student Responsibilities
Parents, guardians and students agree to:
- provide accurate information when making an enquiry;
- attend lessons on time;
- communicate any changes or concerns promptly;
- provide required learning materials where requested;
- ensure online lesson access is ready before the lesson starts;
- provide a suitable learning environment;
- treat tutors respectfully;
- pay fees on time;
- follow the agreed cancellation and rescheduling policy;
- inform us of any relevant learning needs, access needs, welfare concerns or circumstances that may affect tuition.
Beckenham Tutors reserves the right to end a tuition arrangement where behaviour is inappropriate, communication becomes unreasonable or abusive, payments are repeatedly late, lessons are repeatedly missed, or the arrangement is no longer suitable.
11. Tutor Allocation
We aim to match students with a suitable tutor based on subject, level, availability, learning needs, location and lesson format.
Where necessary, Beckenham Tutors may change the tutor assigned to a student due to availability, illness, scheduling, suitability, performance, safeguarding concerns or operational reasons.
If a tutor becomes unavailable, we will aim to offer a suitable replacement where possible.
12. Safeguarding and Student Welfare
Beckenham Tutors takes student welfare seriously. All lessons and communication should remain professional, respectful and appropriate.
Parents and guardians must provide accurate information about any relevant learning needs, medical needs, safeguarding concerns, behavioural needs or circumstances that may affect tuition.
Tutors must not be asked to provide childcare, medical supervision, personal care, transport or services outside the scope of academic tuition.
If a tutor or member of Beckenham Tutors has a serious concern about a student’s welfare or safety, we may take appropriate action. This may include contacting a parent/guardian, pausing tuition, or contacting relevant authorities where necessary.
13. Lesson Recording
Where online lessons are recorded, this will only be done where appropriate and where parents/students have been informed.
Recordings may be used for:
- lesson review;
- safeguarding;
- quality control;
- tutor training;
- progress support;
- dispute resolution.
Recordings must not be shared, copied, uploaded or distributed by parents, students or tutors without permission.
If you do not want a lesson to be recorded, please inform Beckenham Tutors before the lesson begins.
14. Learning Materials
Any learning materials provided by Beckenham Tutors or its tutors are for the student’s personal educational use only.
You may not copy, resell, publish, distribute or use our learning materials for commercial purposes without written permission.
Students may be asked to provide their own school materials, past papers, textbooks, homework tasks, calculators or stationery where relevant.
15. Educational Outcomes
Beckenham Tutors aims to help students improve confidence, understanding, exam technique and subject knowledge.
However, we cannot guarantee:
- specific grades;
- exam results;
- school admission;
- grammar school places;
- scholarship outcomes;
- university offers;
- progress within a specific timeframe.
The effectiveness of tuition depends on consistency, attendance, effort, revision, independent practice, school support and individual circumstances.
16. Refunds
Refund eligibility depends on the tuition arrangement, package type and circumstances.
Refunds are generally not available for:
- lessons already delivered;
- missed lessons without required notice;
- late cancellations;
- unused package lessons where the agreed cancellation terms have not been followed;
- services already started with the customer’s agreement;
- dissatisfaction caused by failure to attend, practise, complete work or provide accurate information.
Where a refund is approved, it will usually be returned using the original payment method.
If tuition is purchased online, by phone, or without meeting in person, UK distance selling rules may apply. UK government guidance states that customers must usually be told about their right to cancel distance purchases, and service contracts may have cancellation rights depending on whether the service has started and what the customer agreed to.
If you ask us to start providing tuition during any cancellation period, you may still be charged for lessons or services already provided.
17. Packages and Unused Lessons
Where a tuition package is purchased, lessons must be used within the agreed timeframe unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Unused lessons may expire if:
- the agreed package period ends;
- the student repeatedly fails to attend;
- the customer stops responding;
- payment terms are breached;
- the cancellation policy is not followed.
Package terms will be explained before purchase where applicable.

- exam results or academic outcomes;
- school or university admission decisions;
- loss caused by inaccurate information provided by the customer;
- student failure to attend, revise or complete work;
- technical issues affecting online lessons;
- disruption caused by events outside our reasonable control;
- indirect, consequential or business losses;
- loss arising from third-party platforms or services.

24. Events Outside Our Control
Beckenham Tutors is not responsible for delays or failure to provide services caused by events outside our reasonable control, including illness, emergencies, internet outages, power cuts, severe weather, transport disruption, platform failures, government restrictions or other unforeseen circumstances.
Where possible, we will aim to rearrange affected lessons.
